HAITI: Carrefour

On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck just outside of Carrefour, Haiti. It is currently believed that more than 230,000 people were killed as a direct result of the earthquake and over one million are displaced, making Haiti the largest refugee camp in the world.

Grace Village has met this need by opening its gates to over 20,000 displaced people who are pitching tents out of tarps, bed sheets, wooden poles and camping supplies over 13 crowded acres.

They have been able to provide food distribution, security and public restrooms, which are rarities among the squatting communities throughout Haiti. Along with their current care, they have a vision for the future of this community that involves permanent shelter and a self-sustaining form of living.

Forward Edge has teamed up with Grace Village to meet the immediate needs of the community through building temporary shelters (hurricane and earthquake resistant), serving food at The Lord's Kitchen (food distribution program that feeds thousands of kids in the camp), and serving the local people through relational ministry, specifically Grace Village's pre-established girls home, boys home & widow's home.

Join Forward Edge in making a lasting impression on the hurting nation of Haiti. In doing so, you will find yourself ministered to just as significantly as those you serve.
