HELP HAITI!
On Tuesday, January 12th, Haiti experienced a catastrophic 7.0-magnitude earthquake, Haiti's worst in two centuries. The quake struck near the capital city of Port-au-Prince (PaP), causing widespread devastation.
It is currently believed that more than
230,000 people were killed as a direct result of the earthquake and over one million are hurting and displaced.
Forward Edge has been called to respond. Showing the love of Christ through second response disaster-relief and recovery work is core to our mission.
In Jacmel, FEI plans to hire local Haitians to take the lead and assist in erecting temporary shelters and permanent homes for victims of the earthquake. It is critical that we do not take jobs away from Haitians (the unemployment rate in Haiti is 80%-90%!), or usurp their ownership of the recovery/rebuilding effort. Your gifts will help fund this effort.
Forward Edge will also be sending volunteers on short-term mission trips to serve alongside the Haitians, helping to erect temporary shelters and permanent homes, and ministering to local children. In addition, FEI volunteers with work with our partners in the PaP suburb of Carrefour (pronounced Car-foo) to help sort food, tarps and hygiene kits for distribution among the displaced. There are also opportunities to serve on a medical team in both PaP and Jacmel. Family doctors, pediatricians, physical therapists and nurses are especially needed.
How YOU can Join the Effort:
PRAY-continue to pray for the people of Haiti and the FEI teams that travel to this area to help.
GIVE - we are collecting funds to help supply the resources for the recovery effort (building materials, medicines, leadership, etc.).
