The southern state of Oaxaca, Mexico is famous for its natural beauty and large population of indigenous people groups. It is also among the poorest regions in Mexico. Three out of four people lack access to basic necessities like food, water, education and healthcare. Travel to this area to learn how you and your volunteers can have an life-changing impact in the lives of the needy of Oaxaca.
Most indigenous people in Oaxaca, Mexico live in dirt-floor huts. They are extremely vulnerable to disease caused by the bacteria-infested ground they live on. Forward Edge volunteers pour concrete floors (called pisos), help build simple cement block homes, and offer hope and encouragement to the impoverished families through relationship. Through simple acts of kindness, you will give hope to the families of Oaxaca!
Cataracts doom hundreds to a life of darkness, and robbing poverty-stricken Mexicans of a livelihood and the ability to provide for their families. Medical teams of nurses and ophthalmologists perform desperately needed, life-changing, cataract removal surgeries in coordination with Manos de Ayuda (Helping Hands) surgery center/medical clinic. These teams bring sight to the blind!
