NICARAGUA: Puerto Cabezas

Nicaragua is the second-poorest country in the Western Hemisphere (second to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake). The Atlantic coast is the poorest region of Nicaragua. When Hurricane Felix hit the Atlantic Coast in September 2007, one could imagine how it devastated those already struggling with extreme poverty. Hundreds of people lost their homes and many are still living in tarped huts in an attempt to stay out of the hot sun and heavy rains. In addition, water tests have revealed high levels of bacteria and other contaminates in their wells.

By partnering with Forward Edge you can help provide shelter and encouragement to these villagers. You will help repair and rebuild their homes and lives! You may also work with our Water for Life projects, which aim to the reduce waterborne illnesses that plague the people of this area. You can work to improve a local children's home, Casa Bernabe, while spending time with the wonderful kids who live there. Our trips to Puerto Cabezas give people like you the opportunity to love and serve the poorest of the poor.
