cuba and Haiti Need Our Help

“The damage is indescribable…80% of homes were affected…The people are devastated, weeping, and grieving. And now, they say, ‘what will become of me? Pastor, I’ve lost everything!'”

This description just came in from our Program Director in El Cobre, Cuba (See his full message below). Category 5 Hurricane Melissa has ravaged the Caribbean with wind speeds up to 185 mph. The communities surrounding three of our programs have been devastated – Kids Club in Vernet, Haiti; Good Samaritans Club in El Cobre, Cuba; and Spring of Blessings in Santiago, Cuba.

Your generous gift today will help our programs provide urgent relief and recovery resources to local families in need.

November 4th Update:

The most pressing need now facing families in El Cobre, Cuba is hunger. Hurricane Melissa destroyed homes and livelihoods, leaving many without food. Our team is feeding 500 people daily, but the need is much greater. Your gifts are already helping us feed families. Will you help us reach even more?

Urgent: Provide relief to Hurricane Melissa survivors

Full message from Pastor Oilver Vera, Director of Good Samaritans Club:

My beloved brothers and sisters, thank God my family and I are safe. I just returned from a visit to El Cobre, and the damage is indescribable.
The winds were ferocious, and the river overflowed twice, once before the hurricane made landfall and again during its passage.

We suffered the full force of the wind, the rain, and the river. 80% of the homes were affected; of those, 60% were severely damaged, and 35% were completely destroyed.

Houses collapsed, houses destroyed by downed power lines, houses without roofs, houses ripped apart entirely, leaving only the floors.
Families lost everything: clothes, mattresses, refrigerators, TVs, stoves, all their appliances.

The church building sustained some damage (damaged roof tiles), and the kitchen in the parsonage suffered roof damage.

The people are devastated, weeping, and grieving. And now, they say, “what will become of me? Pastor, I’ve lost everything!” It breaks your heart. We weep with them.

Your generous gift today will bring help and hope to families in Cuba and Haiti devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
