Alvin lives with his parents, brother and two sisters in a three-room, unplastered house made of wood. They get water from a borehole, which they boil, and their outdoor bathroom facilities are in bad condition. His mother is the sole provider and works as a casual laborer to support her children, but is not able to meet all of their needs.
