Lizandra lives with her mother, stepfather and three siblings in a three-bedroom wood house with a sheet metal roof and concrete floor. The home has electricity and outdoor plumbing. The kitchen is outdoor and the family cooks with charcoal, wood, or propane when it is available. They have no toilet facility and use their grandmother’s bathroom. Water is supplied by the town aqueduct every two days. There is a pig barn ten feet away from the house which causes bad odors.
Lizandra’s parents divorced before she was born. Both parents remarried and Lizandra now has three sisters. Her sister, Yilian, is also in the Good Samaritans program. Lizandra’s biological father lives in a different municipality and is not part of her life. Her mother and stepfather work security and provide for the family.
