Lian lives in a two-bedroom apartment with his mother and older sister, Lia, who is also in the program. They have electricity and running untreated water which they boil to drink. They cook with propane and electricity. The lighting in the home is good and the children do their homework at the dining room table. Lian shares a bedroom with his sister.
Lian’s father moved to Havana for better job opportunties and his mother is now essentially the sole provider, working at a daycare center, with minimal financial support from his father. The family usually has two meals a day.
