A staggering 53.2% of people in Oaxaca, Mexico live in poverty. Most families are dealing with severe unemployment and poor education. This has entangled many families in a cycle of poverty nearly impossible to escape.
Many families have no other choice but to live in tin shacks, thrown together with whatever materials can be scavenged or purchased with the little money they have. In the hot months, these houses are like small ovens. In the winter, they are cold, with no insulation to keep warm.
Forward Edge is a 501(c)3 relief and development organization founded in 1983 and based in Vancouver, WA with international programs in eight different countries.
Forward Edge has operated a holistic children’s program in Oaxaca, Mexico for the last 14 years providing vulnerable children and their families with nutritious meals, safe drinking water, education and tutoring, medical check-ups, weekly church services and discipleship groups, a savings bank, and a private Christian school.
Trigo y Miel also collaborates with our homebuilding ministry called Operation Enduring Homes, which provides jobs to local men and safe homes for families in dire need.
