Tabitha lives with her mother and three brothers in a one-room sheetmetal house which they rent. The family has one bed that is shared by 3 people and the two older children sleep on the floor. They get water from a borehole and the bathroom facility is in bad condition.
Tabitha's father abandoned the family so her mother is the sole provider working as a fruit vendor. It is very difficult for her to feed, clothe, and educate the children; they wear tattered clothing and shoes, and spend most of the time at home due to lack of school fees.
