Marian lives with her parents and her sister in a small house with a dirt floor where there is not enough light to study at night. Marian's parents have been trying to finish building their home since Marian was a child. They cook with propane and electricity and they have water from the town water line. They use a computer to listen to the radio.
Marian Luisa’s mother is an accountant and her father is an engineer but wages are small in comparison to living expenses; food and household goods and materials are often hard to find.
Marian's sister, Hadasa, is also in the Good Samaritans program.
