A Note from President Joseph Anfuso:
Earlier this week, I shared a touching letter with you that I received from one of the girls in our Nicaragua program.
That letter prompted me to reach out to our program directors around the globe for more stories of transformation. I also wanted to hear more of our children’s own words about how God has changed their lives through Forward Edge.
Our program directors of Trigo y Miel (Wheat & Honey) in Oaxaca, Mexico responded telling me about Luis Fernando. Luis is 16 years old. His father sorts through trash at the local garbage dump to make ends meet. His mother sometimes does laundry for other families, but mostly looks after Luis and his four siblings.
Here is what Luis had to say about his experience with Forward Edge (translated to English):
Before my sisters and I came to Trigo y Miel, we were hungry a lot. I thought I was going to have to drop out of school so I could work and help my family. But now I don’t have to and I’m in my third year of high school.
I am very thankful for the food and tutoring at Trigo y Miel. And for the love from the pastors, the teachings from the Bible and the advice. I am happy because I know God loves me and my life is now better.
Right now, there are many more children like Luis, looking at our programs from the outside and dreaming of joining them someday. We are just as eager to receive them! But we need more support to serve these children.
Friends, a generous gift from you today can help make their dream come true. As you reflect on this year and make your year-end giving plans, I encourage you to continue changing the lives of young people like Luis through Forward Edge.
